Who Is Caeleb Dressel

Born under the name of Caeleb Remel Dressel, the man is one of the most promising American swimmers who successfully gained lots of medals during various national and international championships.

Dressel is also the seven-time gold medalist for the Olympics and currently holds the record for the 100 m butterfly, 50-meter freestyle, and 100 m medley. During the event of 2020 Summer Olympics, he won not only one but five golds during a competition that was held in Tokyo. This achievement puts him on the list of five Americans who won five golds in a single Olympic event, and the last one happened in 1970.

In the same game, he won the gold in the 50 and 100-meter freestyle and the 100-meter butterfly, making him the first man in swimming history at modern Olympic games to win the gold in that category.

Aside from snatching all the golds, Dressel is also known for holding the American records for 50 and 100-meter freestyle and 50 and 100-meter butterfly. Other than those, he is holding the records for the 50 and 100-yard freestyle, 100-yard butterfly, and 200-yard medley. Dressel also won some NCAA titles during his collegiate years.

Early life

Caeleb Remel Dressel was born on the 16th of August in the year 1996, in Green Cove Springs to his parents Michael Dressel, and Christina. His family members (excluding the mother) were competitive swimmers and were known to have honors at various levels.

His love of swimming was found when he was a child. He, with his siblings, learned how to swim when he was at such as young age. During his younger years, he went to Clay High School in the same city and attended the School Sharks located in Jacksonville. This is where he trained with his training partner, Meghan Haila. They eventually married at some point in his life.

Career

US Olympic Trials 2012

During his 15, Dressel participated in the 2012 US Olympic Trials. He was the youngest swimmer there. With a time record of 2:08.08, he was the 100th for the 200-meter medley. He also finished 121st in the 200-meter freestyle event, 121st in the 100-meter butterfly, and 145h in the 50-meter freestyle. Dressel didn’t qualify for the Olympics and decided to refocus and prepare himself for the 2016 Summer Olympics.

World Junior Championships 2013

During the event, Dressel, who was age 17, won a total of six medals, with one gold being the winner of the 100-meter freestyle event. He won the medal graciously while breaking the Championships record with a time of 48.97.

The other medals he won were silvers for the 4×100-meter freestyle and 4×100-meter mixed freestyle. He also won the bronze medal for the 50-meter freestyle, 4×100-meter medley, and 4×200-meter freestyle relay.

US Junior National Championships 2013

Within the same year, he also participated in the Championship. This time, he became the record breaker again by swimming with the time recorded in 18.94f for the team’s relay.

NCAA Championships 2015

At this point, Dressel attended the University of Florida. And during his freshman year, he already won some NCAA titles in 2015, which is for the 50-yeard freestyle in 18.67, which set another record for the 17-18 national age group.

His pure skills put him into the title of the fastest freshman year in the category of 50-yard freestyle.

National Championships 2015

During the National Championships, Dressel won two titles for both 50-meter and 100-meter freestyle, with a time recorded at 21.53 for the 50-meter freestyle, which was ranked 4th fastest in the world.

NCAA Championships 2016

During this event, Dressel broke another record for the 50-yeard with the time in 18.20 and 40.46 for the 100-yeard freestyle. He broke both US Open and American records.

US Olympic Trials 2016

At this event, Dressel was finally recognized to be one of the best young sprinters in All of the Americas. He performed excellently during the event. He and his team finished second during the 100-meter freestyle with a time of 48.23. He finished 4th in the 50-meter freestyle, 7th in the 100-meter butterfly, and 32nd in the 200-meter freestyle, and was disqualified for the 200-meter medley due to a wrong start.

World Championships 2017

This is when the world finally learns how skillful Dressel is. During the Championships held in Budapest, this man snatched seven golds while breaking several American records for multiple categories. He was even considered the male swimmer of the meet.

Dressel started the match by winning a gold medal with his team in the 100 m freestyle. He also broke the American record for the 50-meter butterfly with a time record of 22.76. Later on, he broke another American record in the 100 m freestyle with a time of 47.26.

On the fourth day of the competition, Dressel, along with his team, won another gold in the 4×100 meter mixed medley relay with the new-world record of 3:38.56. Dressel also won another gold by leading over by 0.70 seconds in the 100 m freestyle category.

On the seventh day, Dressel won another three golds in the 50 m & 100 m butterfly, also the mixed 4×100 m freestyle relay.

In conclusion, Dressel won the seventh gold in the category of the 4×100-meter medley relay.

World Short Course Championships 2018

During the competition, Dressel tied with Kelsi Dahlia for winning the most medals, with nine in total. Compared to dahlia’s 7, he obtained six gold medals.

With Olivia Smoliga, they broke the new world record while snatching the gold medal at the same time. Through their effort, Dressel successfully broke his previous Guinness World Record for the most number of gold medals won at a single World Championships for individuals, which was seven gold medals in 2017.

He won a gold medal in the 50-meter freestyle, silver in the 50-meter freestyle, and another gold again in the 100 m freestyle event. In the final of the 4×100-meter freestyle relay, he and his team won another gold while successfully breaking the world record with the time of 3:03:03.

Dressel also won the golds for the 4×50-meter mixed freestyle relay and 4×100-meter medley.

World Championships 2022

On the first day of the Championships, he won the gold medal for the 4×100-meter freestyle category with a time of 47.67. He also won another gold on the next day when he finished 1st in the 50-meter butterfly with a time of 22.57. Despite his achievement in being the second-fastest swimmer to go into the semifinals, he withdrew from the Championships due to health reasons.
