Who Is Cameron McEvoy

Cameron McEvoy is a competitive swimmer from Australia who was born on 13 May 1994. He was known to participate in various national and international events, including the 2012 and 2016 Olympics.

He’s trained under Richard Scarce as a coach and focuses on the short-course freestyle events. McEvoy is pretty famous in Australia for his brilliance in multiple national events, including winning the nationals and breaking the 100-meter freestyle record during his teenage years.

Other than swimming, he also loves studying about physics. His biggest inspiration is Richard Feynman, the Nobel prize winner in physics. He’s also known for his love of the Los Angeles Lakers.

McEvoy started his long years of swimming career brightly by winning various gold medals starting in 2011. Back then, he participated in the 50, 100, 200, and 800-meter freestyle, where he won the golds for the first two, and bronzes for the last. In the same year, he also got another gold at the Singapore World Cup by winning the 100-meter freestyle.

A year later, he achieved his best time during the 2012 Short Course FINA World Cup for the 100 and 200-meter freestyle. And in 2013, he obtained a silver medal in the 400-meter medley relay in the 2013 World Championships. Continuing his winning spree, McEvoy snatched another gold medal in the 100-meter freestyle during the Pan Pacific.

2015

2015 FINA World Championships

A year later, he participated in the 2015 FINA World Championships, getting the silver in the 100-meter freestyle, and later another silver for helping the team in the 400-meter medley relay. A bronze medal was also obtained in the 800-meter freestyle relay.

2016

2016 Australian Championships

Another stunning performance was seen during the 2016 Australian Championships. This time, McEvoy wasn’t fooling around. In total, he got three gold medals by winning the 200-meter freestyle and setting a new record, the 100-meter freestyle in 47.04 (a new Australian record), and 50-meter freestyle.

2016 Rio Olympics

Again, another great performance for both team and individual events. He started the day by joining the Australian team in the 400 meter freestyle, and successfully won a bronze. His split time (47.00) was the second fastest in the event.

Another bronze was picked in the 4 x 100-meter medley relay heats, although McEvoy was replaced later by Kyle Chamlers for the finals.

As for the individual events, he competed in the 100-meter freestyle and finished 7th, and in the 50-meter freestyle, he finished 8th.

2017-2020

2017 World Championships

A year later, he competed in the World Championships held in Budapest. This time, he participated in the 100-meter freestyle and 4×100-meter freestyle relay. As for the first one, he finished in 4th, which was only milliseconds away from the bronze medalist, and for the relay, the team was disqualified.

2019 World Championships

In 2019 World Championships, he helped the team to get the bronze medal in the 4 x 100 freestyle relay.

2020 Olympic Games

A year later, he swam in the 4 x 100 freestyle relay, and successfully won a bronze with a split time of 49.18.
