Who Is Daniil Izotov

Daniil Izotov is a competitive swimmer from Russia, and also an Olympic medalist. Born on 2 October 1991, Izotov is now currently a swimmer who focuses on short distances. The 100 and 200-meter freestyle are his specialities.

The one who trained him to become a champion is his father, Sergey Alexandrovich Izotov. Izotov is also a member of the National Team of Russia since 2008, and attended Ural State Pedagogical University (USPU) Yekaterinburg, studying Physical Culture.

2007 Beijing Olympics

The earliest record known for Daniil Izotov was in 2007, the year when he entered the Beijing Olympics. At that event, he participated in the 200-meter freestyle category. Izotov was still a teenager back then.

However, only a year later, Izotov competed once again in the international event at Olympic Games 2008, which was his first. And after fighting in the 800-meter freestyle relay with the team, he successfully got the silver medal for his effort.

2009 World Championships

Sometime later, Izotov joined the international swimming events again in the 2009 World Championships. He was fighting in the 200-meter freestyle event and won the bronze after finishing third in 1:43.9.

He also helps his team with the 4×100 and 200 freestyle relay and got his team the silver medal.

Shoulder Injury

After fighting tirelessly for the past years, in 2012 it was announced that Izotov had shoulder surgery, which resulted in missing the final of the FINA World Cup 2012, along with the Short Course World Championships.

In the 2012 London Olympics, he participated in the 200 and 800-meter freestyle relay and finished 8th and 3rd respectively.

2013 Comeback

After undergoing the surgery recovery a year before, Izotov swam again in 2013 in the Russian Cup. In this event, he won the silver after finishing second in the 100-meter freestyle and obtaining the gold in the 200-meter freestyle event.

He also participated in the 2013 World Championships and winning the third position for the 200-meter freestyle and getting the silver for the 800-meter freestyle relay. 2013 was a year for Izotov, although it didn’t last long.

In 2014, he got another shoulder injury that made him out of the competition at the 2014 European Championships. However, he had a meet during the Russian Nationals held in the same year and got into the 100-meter and 200-meter freestyle events.

2015 World Championships

In 2015, he joined the 2015 World Championships held in Kazan in the 4 x200 meter freestyle relay event and helped the team to get the 4th position. He also participated in the 200-meter freestyle and got the 15-h position after finishing in 1:47.66.

2016 Olympic Games

A year later, he participated in the 2016 Olympic Games when he competed in the 4×100 meter freestyle relay and got into both preliminaries and the finals. During the finals, the Russian team finished in 4th.

2017 World Championships

During the event, he was a part of the Russian team to participate in the 4×200 meter freestyle relay and helped to get the silver medal.

2018 European Championships

Another Izotov winning spree was during the 2018 European Championships. He entered the individual 100-meter freestyle event and got the 9th position. However, he successfully got the three medals in the event.

The first one was the silver medal for the 4×100 meter freestyle relay, the bronze for the 4×200 meter freestyle relay, and another bronze for the 4×100 meter mixed freestyle relay.
