Who Is Nicolas Fink

Another talented American swimmer is Nicolas Fink. Fink is known to be America’s best breaststroker on the National Team. The first time he qualified for the international team was in 2013 when he got part in the US National Championships. During that event, he finished 8th in the 100m breaststroke category.

Early Life

Nicola Fink was born in Morristown, New Jersey. During his early days, he went to The Pingry School before entering the University of Georgia where he participated in a few NCCA Championships for his team, The Bulldogs.

In his freshman year, he already got recognition by finishing 10th place in the 200m breaststroke, and 17th in both the 100m breaststroke and 200 IM. During the NCAA Championships in 2015, they finally got the second position in the 100m breaststroke category.

International Career

FINA World Championships – 2013

His first meet was FINA World Championships in 2013 when he finished 8th in the 100m breaststroke with a time recorded at 1:00.10.

Duel in the Pool – 2013

During the Dual in The Pool, the Team USA he participated in was fighting to reach the top against the European All-Stars. In the tough competition, he won fifth place in the 100 m breaststroke and 200m breaststroke.

Pan Pacific Championships – 2014

During the event of Summer National Championships, he successfully got silver in the 100m breaststroke category, which qualified him for the Championships in Australia. In the Championships, he got another silver medal for winning second place in the 200m breaststroke category, while also finishing 4th in the 100m breaststroke.

World Cup – 2015

He, along with another American fellow, competed in the 100m breaststroke in the World Cup 2015. After showing his skills by winning the second position, he qualified for the final. He was just seconds behind Cameron Van der Burgh, the silver medalist of the World Championships.

World Championship Team Trials – 2017

During the event, he successfully got second place seconds behind Kevin Cordes, which beat the previous silver medalist of the championships, Josh Prenot.

Winter National Championships – 2017

Fink broke the Code Miller’s Championships record for the 100m breaststroke category with a time of 50.80. It was 0.24 seconds faster than the previous record. Although he aimed for the gold, he had to come down with a silver medal after winning 50.98.

National Championships – 2018

Fink also joined the National Championships held in 2018. And at that time, he won sixth place in the 50m breaststroke category, sixth in 100m breaststroke, and 4th in 200 m breaststroke. Thus, making him qualified for the next Pan American Games in Peru.

Pan American Games – 2019

He started the games beautifully by winning another silver medal in the 200m breaststroke category with a time of 2:08.16 behind fellow teammate Will Licon.

During the eliminations for the 4×100 medley relay, he successfully spitting 58.86, which qualified him for the part. So, during the finals, he split in 58.57, which broke the game’s record, while getting the gold medal after finishing in 3:30.25.

Olympic Trials – 2020

When he participated in the Olympic Trials in 2020, he started the match pretty strong with a time of 58.50 for the 100m breaststroke semi-finals. Some days later, he made his first Olympic team when he got the top position for the 200m breaststroke by dominantly finishing at 2:07.55.

During the actual Olympic games, he finished 5th in the 200m breaststroke category.

Short Course World Championships – 2021

In the Short Course World Championships held in Abu Dhabi, Fink has got 6 medals in total that consisting of 3 gold medals, 2 silver medals, and one bronze medal. He won the individual titles for both 50 m and 200m breaststroke, while also finishing 3rd for the 100m breaststroke.

During the same event, he helped the American team to win the gold in the 200 medley and silver medal in the 400 m medley and 200 m mixed medley.

World Championship Trials – 2022

He qualified for the World Championships by winning the top position for the 200m breaststroke in 2:08.88. At the next event, he successfully finished 2nd in the 50m breaststroke category in 26.55. During the 100m breaststroke, he got her personal best record in 58.39.

World Championships – 2022

He got the first LCM World Medal on his second day in Budapest. He got it by winning the third position in the 100m breaststroke in 58.65. Feeling not satisfied with the result, he continued his winning spree by obtaining the gold medal for the 50 m freestyle category in 26.45. At the same time, he broke the American record while also being the very first American man who won gold in that category.

Not long after, he obtained another gold in the mixed medley relay, which helped USA to dominate the event.
