Pokemon Scarlet and Violet is better than God of War: Ragnarok. Nintendo breaks sales record

Subsequent releases of the Pokemon series are very popular, and it was no different in the case of Scarlet and Violet, the installment that was released in mid-November 2022. However, the game’s popularity exceeded Nintendo’s wildest expectations, thus beating the result of God of War in a similar time: Ragnarok.

Pokemon Scarlet and Violet had its official premiere on November 18. According to information published by the Japanese branch of Nintendo, the game’s worldwide sales exceeded 10 million copies within three days of its release. This is a stunning result, especially considering that the title was released only on Nintendo Switch.

Currently, Pokemon Scarlet and Violet is the fastest-selling Nintendo game, thus breaking the record of the hugely popular Animal Crossing: New Horizons (13 million copies, but only six weeks after its release). The previous full-fledged installment of the series, i.e., Pokemon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl, hit six million players around the world a week after its release.

At the same time, Sony boasted the sales results of its latest hit – God of War: Ragnarok received great reviews, and in its premiere week (from November 9 to 13), the game was sold to 5.1 million PlayStation 4 and 5 owners. Thus, the new production of Santa Monica Studio became the “fastest-selling exclusive game” released on Sony consoles and set a new sales record for the God of War series.

Despite this, we are still talking about almost twice as bad as in the case of Pokemon Scarlet and Violet, which is struggling with huge technical problems. The case is so serious that some customers have started asking Nintendo for a refund. So far, the greatest successes in the field of recovering the funds invested in the game are reported by owners of digital copies. Still, everything indicates that each case will be considered individually by Nintendo.
