The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, despite not so much time has passed since its release, has gained cult status among players. Therefore, it is not surprising that there is a lot of interest in the refreshed edition of the game, created for current-gen consoles (PS5 and Xbox Series X|S) and more powerful personal computers. CD Projekt has unveiled the details of the “next-gen update,” which will appear later in 2022.
On the previously announced stream, CD Projekt developers discussed exactly what changes will become part of the refreshed edition of The Witcher 3. The so-called Complete Edition is created for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S, so we’ll start with these platforms.
Players will be given a choice of two modes in which the game can be launched:
- The quality will allow you to play in 4K resolution while maintaining 60 FPS;
- The performance will support AMD FSR 2.0, a technique similar to Nvidia’s solution (DLSS, or Deep Learning Super Sampling) that improves the game’s overall performance.
In addition, console players will be able to store their saves in the cloud, and CD Projekt has announced that The Witcher 3 for PS5 will use the features of the DualSense controller.
In the PC release, we will see support for Nvidia DLSS 2.0 and AMD FSR 2.0 techniques, support for ray tracing, and the implementation of several modifications created by the community that somehow improve the overall gameplay.
In addition, the “next-gen update” will bring photo mode to both consoles and PC, quests inspired by the Netflix series The Witcher, and all sorts of minor improvements, including bug fixes that have not been eliminated far. It should also be facilitated by cross-saves known from Cyberpunk 2077 – thanks to them, players can transfer their saves between different platforms.
All this will appear on December 14, 2022, and it is worth reminding that PC, PS4, and Xbox One owners can download the update for free. The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt – Complete Edition in the “next-gene” release will be sold as a separate product, including the base game and all add-ons, DLC, and all content that appeared in the game after its release in May 2015.
