If you are looking for the best heart rate monitor for crossfit, you have come to the right place.
I am going to review some of the best activity trackers for crossfit here in this guide and guide you to a very solid process. Let's start.
Best Heart Rate Monitor For Crossfit 2019
1. Garmin Forerunner 935
- Premium GPS running/triathlon watch with wrist based heart rate;Strap material : silicone ; Smartphone compatibility : iPhone, Android, Windows; designed for sale and support in North America only
- Offers advanced running and multisport Features in a comfortable watch you can wear all day, and it only weighs 49 grams
My Independent Rating
Since its initial launch in 2017, the Garmin Forerunner 935 (FR935) has been a wonderful companion for committed runners or triathletes. It offers in-depth tracking on crossfit & other activity sports.
Engineered by an American multinational technology company, the FR935 made its mark as a reliable multi-sports watch. It functions like a jack-of-all-trades with its ability to track across many disciplines.
Crossfit lovers will be equally pleased as the FR935 can easily track their progress. On top of that, transitioning between modes is done with just a simple click of a button.
I especially liked the fact that it has button controls. When working out with sweaty fingers or when cycling in the rain, sweat and water make it impossible to toggle touch-screen watches. That's why FR935 is the ideal sports watch and workout companion.
It's reliability, consistency in tracking progress and ability in playing the role of a training buddy further boosts its value.
It provides you with accurate 24/7 heart rate and distance tracking, giving you an estimate of your resting heart rate each day.
I also like its extra-long battery life. If you are into endurance events, this can be your perfect companion.
Its water-resistant quality for up to 50 meters deep makes it suitable for swimmers, triathletes, ultrarunners, and even for workouts like CrossFit training.
My experience with the FR935 gives me the impression that this is everything a sports watch should be.
However, since I have a small wrist, wearing a sports watch the size of the FR935 look awkward. While it’s light and thin, it looks so big for people like me with small wrists.
This is my top pick heart rate monitor for crossfit. I have been using it for around 3 months and so far I am loving it.
2. Garmin vivosmart HR Crossfit Activity Tracker
- Sleek band is comfortable to wear all day, and the always on display shows your stats, even in sunlight
- Displays steps, distance, calories, heart rate, floors climbed and activity intensity. Strap material: silicone
My Independent Rating
If you want to keep track of your activity, heart rate, count steps and even calories, then this is the ideal gadget for you. It’s perfect for all-day wear so you won’t miss counting every beat. Receive notifications from texts, calls, and social media keeps you connected to loved ones while staying true to your fitness goals.
It acts as your daily reminder to keep moving, inspiring you to stick to your routine and to ensure you stay active during the day. You can also get notifications whenever you have an incoming call, email, calendar and social media alerts.
If you're a hiker like me who loves all the features of a smartwatch, then this is a prize find. Garmin's Elevate wrist heart rate technology tracks your cardio efforts and calories burned. Its integrated barometric altimeter helps track any extra effort you exert while climbing stairs.
When I first used this product, I am most pleased with how it keeps me organised with my emails, workout routine and even help me set alarms based on my usage.
Once it is synced to my smartphone, it sends weather notifications, giving me time to cancel or push through with my scheduled appointment.
It's compatibility to iPhone, Android and windows make it a top choice for people like me who love to stay in touch with family and friends via social media, without compromising my active lifestyle.
What I don't like is that I can't remove the notifications completely. It sometimes gets annoying to have my phone vibrate every now and then, especially if I'm on an important meeting.
The absence of a battery percentage is another downside and the band is not made of durable material. While I appreciate the sleek design, it's annoying to fit the charger plug in place.
Pick this if you want something less expensive. The device looks promising and does everything. But the only issue I have is- I would like to get fixed is the display. ( Sometimes I just feel it's unreadable during sunlight.
3. Skygrand Update 2019 HRM For Crossfit
- Heart Rate & Sleep Monitoring: Built-in the Nordic 52840 Chip, minimum size, lowest power consumption, highest integration. Data full accuracy and battery life is longer! Tracks real-time heart rate automatically & continuously and automatically tracks your sleep duration & consistency with comprehensive analysis of sleep quality data, helping you adjust yourself for a healthier lifestyle. - All-day Activity Tracking & Breathe: Accurately record all-day activities like steps, distance, calories burned, miles walked, active minutes, sleep status and more. Stay motivated all day! Help you regulate your breathing and relax your mood.
This smartwatch acts as your daily companion to keep you active and updated with your fitness goals.
It helps you achieve a balanced lifestyle with its activity tracking, heart rate monitoring, sports tracking, sleep statistics and help you relax on days when you feel stressed out.
It even reminds you to move when you’ve been sitting for so long.
It definitely garnered its “smartwatch” tagline as it is “smart” enough to monitor your heart rate during exercise and measures your resting heart rate for a more comprehensive data of your heart health.
What I love about this product is that it’s risk-free. It offers a lifetime money back guarantee and that alone is enough for me to give it a try.
And so far, it didn’t disappoint! Tracking my walk, run, cycle, treadmill, and fitness is made easier with this smartwatch. You can even track table tennis, rope skipping and badminton!
Once you connect it to your phone’s GPS, you can see your real-time run stats, including a map of your route after your workout. Its multisports mode options make it an ideal watch for everyone as it fits perfectly with your lifestyle wherever you are.
For a gal like me, I like the way it cares about my menstrual cycle by giving me those hearty little reminders to keep a light exercise, cheer up and keep warm to protect my uterus. It may even give better TLC than your boyfriend!
I can choose a girly pink color but if I want the watch to go with whatever wear, I prefer to go with black. On top of that, I like its waterproof and dustproof design, which means I can wear it anywhere in whatever condition I’m in.
What I don’t like is that it has issues with Bluetooth connectivity sometimes. On top of that, the sleep tracker sometimes works, sometimes doesn’t.
The watch face options are so generic and don’t accurately count my steps. While I am thrilled with all the features, I was not impressed with its performance after trying it on.
If you need something that can replace apple, you might want to consider it.
4. Fitbit Charge 2 For Crossfit
- PurePulse continuous, automatic wrist based heart rate tracking to better measure calorie burn all day
- Maximize your workouts using simplified heart rate zones (Fat Burn, Cardio and Peak). Splash proof. Do not shower with the device or submerge it in water
Fitbit truly aims to make every beat count with this heart rate tracker and fitness wristband. It offers the same functionality of a sports watch minus the bulky look.
It is designed for all-day wear and 24/7 heart rate tracking with PurePulse. This helps you maximise your workout routines, track calories you burn and gives you an overall view of your cardio fitness level.
As a successor and replacement to the Charge HR activity-tracking wristband, the Fitbit Charge 2 Heart Rate + Fitness Wristband have a bigger and better display than its predecessor.
It definitely looks more of a fitness tracker now and not just fashion wear, and this is one reason to buy this product.
However, it gets better with its added multi-sport modes. Simply tap on the display once if you want to choose running, tap it again for biking and so on.
There is also the GPS addition that pulls data from your phone while you’re doing your stuff. It’s like a super-enhanced version of its predecessor that makes it a bestseller product of Fitbit.
What I like about it is that it records your step count, stairs you climbed, distance traveled, heart rate, calories burned and sleep patterns.
It even has a dedicated function for recording your workouts, such as Crossfit or hiking, biking and elliptical workouts which were lacking in the previous version.
You will also receive a notification on the device, straight from your phones such as incoming call and calendar alerts.
I really liked how it pulses on your wrist when it's time to stop and start and activity.
On top of that, it has a new feature called Cardio Fitness Score that uses your resting heart rate, some of your exercise data and profile info to assign a specific health score.
However, there are instances when the distance tests were not accurate.
The company identified a bug in the software that causes inaccurate distances when using connected GPS and has corrected the issues through their free software upgrade for all Charge 2 users.
With all the multi-sport modes added on the big display, there was no button if you want to pause.
This means when you have to stop during a workout, say you have to tie your shoe, catch your breath or drink, you can’t pause the tracker.
Another downside is that it’s not waterproof.
5. Huawei Band 2 Pro
- Built-in GPS and continuous heart rate: monitor your heart rate and track your workout routes without your phone
- Scientific sleep tracking: keep track of light, deep and REM sleep stages to make your sleep truly restful; PMOLED display
Rain or shine, the Huawei Band 2 Pro will never disappoint. It’s the perfect definition of an all-day wearable gadget that is thin, classing and has a soft silicone strap.
It’s built-in GPS and continuous heart rate tracker keeps track of your heart rate and your workout routes even without your phone.
But you can still pair it with your smartphone to get all the cool stuff and stay connected with loved ones without compromising your workout habits.
What I really like about this product is that I can start the workout app and get workout data with just a press.
This is a perfect gadget for people like me who have smaller wrist because it is slender and look great on my wrist.
It also tracks how many calories I burned after a walk.
It also helps me get enough sleep every night as it has this little notification that it’s time to get some shut-eye. Perfect for those who want to start a healthy habit by getting enough sleep.
But what turns me off is that I have to shake my wrist to turn it on because the display is unreadable most of the time.
Also, it doesn’t have an altimeter so it’s not ideal for bicycle training or hiking. But if you are more interested in activity tracking, then this gadget is worth the price.
Another downside to this product is the clasp issue. It can fall from your wrist with the design flaw of the clasp.
If you zip up your jacket and the material drags across the clasp, then the tracker can fall off. As simple as leaning against the counter can make the tracker unclasp itself when it slides against the counter.
When joining Crossfit, you need a device that can easily track your progress. You also need to transition between workout modes with just a simple click of a button.
A device with extended battery life is your perfect companion during your longest endeavors and can keep up for 24 hours.
On top of that, you need a reliable barometric altimeter to calculate your running stress accurately.
So far, the abovementioned gadgets are the top five sports watch products I have personally tried.
I love hiking in the woods and want to see my climb data in real-time so I need a device that has sophisticated sensors and give insights into my training.
I also need a device to help me relax and tells me if it’s a good idea to train or if I should relax and recover from an intense workout instead.
See how those health buffs flock the gym looking so lean and mean? It's inspiring. But it also takes discipline and a reliable workout companion.
And if you want to join the bandwagon, one important device you need is a heart tracking device.
This helps you track your progress, measure your cardiorespiratory fitness, your recovery time between sets and track your overall improvement.
