Who is Florent Manaudou

Florent Manaudou is a competitive swimmer from France, which is notably known to share his skilful swimming career with his sister, Laure, the Olympic gold medalist. Manaudou successfully made his own name and was established to be one of the fastest sprinters in the country.

Early Life

Manaudou was born on November 12th 1990 in Villeurbanne, France. He spent his early years training with his brother, Nicholas. At 17, Manaudou was already recognized for his brilliance after joining the 50-meter freestyle during the Junior Championships.

Later on, he joined the military as a member of the artillery regiment. Outside swimming, Manaudou is often seen with his sister, who previously married to a member of the French national team, Frédérick Bousquet.

2012 Olympic Games

During the London Olympic games, Manaudou captures the world’s attention by winning the 50-meter freestyle event from lane seven. At that time, Manaudou was the first man from France who won the Olympic championship.

2013 World Championships

A year later, he participated in the 2013 World Championships, successfully delivering the best time in the 50-meter freestyle during the French Nationals.

In the 2013 World Championships, he participated in the 50-meter fly although didn’t place.

2014 European Championships

In 2014, he participated in the 2014 European Championships in Berlin where he won not only one, but four gold medals, whereas three are individual medals in the 50-meter freestyle, 100-meter freestyle, and 50-meter fly.

Moments later, Manaudou competed in the 2014 World Short Course Championships when he got an additional three goldies, two silver medals, and one bronze. The gold was obtained from 50 meters free in 20.26 and 50-meter backstroke in 22.22, both setting new World records.

2015 World Championships

Manaudou showed his dominance once again in the 2015 World Championships as one of the fastest short-course sprinters in the world. He competed in the 50-meter freestyle event and won the gold by finishing only 0.33 seconds away from the silver medalist.

2016 Rio Olympics

In the 400-meter freestyle relay, he joined fellow French team members and helped win a silver medal, second to the US.

Later on, he competed in the two 50-meter freestyle events and obtained two silvers. His previous record was broken by Anthony Ervin from USA.

2019 Sette Colli Trophy

Almost three years later, Manaudou finally made his return by competing in the 2019 Settle Colli Trophy. In the 50-meter freestyle event, the Olympic champion scored a silver medal in 21.7.

2020 Olympic Games

Manaudou continued to strike his medal-winning streak in the 2020 Olympic Games when he got the silver medal in the 50-meter freestyle with a time record of 21.55.
