Who Is Ross Murdoch

Ross Murdoch is a talented swimmer from Scotland. He was born on January 14 1994, and now competing in various national and international swimming events, representing Scotland and Great Britain.

Murdoch is known to be a breaststroke specialist, and during his long years of career, he was trained under Coach Ben Higson at the University of Stirling.

He found the love for swimming when he was 6. Since then, he has focused on the sport with his own father as an inspiration. Murdoch actually mentioned this in so many interviews. Their strong bond is the reason that drives him into who he is today.

National Career

His very first national competition was British GAS Swimming in 2012. He competed in the 200-meter backstroke and finished in 7th. A year later, he improved so much to the point that he successfully got a gold medal for his effort in the 100-meter breaststroke during the British GAS Championships 2013. Another bronze was obtained later in the 50-meter event.

International Career

World Championships 2013

In the same year, he participated in the World Championships 2013 in the 200-meter breaststroke. He successfully got into the semi-final.

2014 Commonwealth Games

In the games held in Glasgow, Murdoch finally won not only one event, but several. He got a gold medal in the 200-meter breaststroke and a bronze medal in the 100-meter breaststroke, while also setting new national and Commonwealth records in the first event.

In the same year, he also participated in the European Championships and won two silver medals in the same events.

2015 World Championships

2015 was Murdoch’s year. This time, he was going really strong, reaching the best position as one of the world’s fastest breaststrokers. Although it didn’t seem too apparent at first, Murdoch finally gained the bronze medal in the 100-meter breaststroke while setting a new Scottish record.

2016 European Championships

In the European Championships, Murdoch successfully collected all three medals from different breaststroke events. In the 200-meter breaststroke, he won gold with a time record of 2:08.33, silver was obtained in the 100-meter breaststroke in 59.73, and the bronze medal in the 50-meter breaststroke with a time record of 27.31.

2016 Olympic Games

On his first Olympic debut, Murdoch had to step down after being unable to reach the final. He reached the 11th position with the time of 1:00.05. Although his performance in the 200-meter breaststroke during previous Championships was brilliant, Murdoch actually not qualified when “tested” in the Olympic Trials.

2017 World Championships

This was Murdoch’s second World Championship. He competed in the 100-meter and 200-meter breaststroke events, and finished in 8th (59.45), and 4th (2:08.12.), respectively.
