Who Is Andriy Govorov

Andriy Andriyovych Govorov (Андрій Андрійович Говоров) is a professional swimmer from Ukraine. During his long years of career, he successfully holds the world record, while being the bronze medalist for the 2017 World Championships and European Champion for the 50-meter butterfly category.

Early Life

Govorov was born on April 10th, 1992 in a city called Sevastopol, Ukraine. He studied at the Dnipro Higher School of Physical Culture and attended the National University of Dnipro in 2016.

International Career

The earliest known records of Govorov’s earliest international career were in 2010 when he joined the Youth Olympic Games. He showed his spectacular skills by winning the second position in the 50-meter butterfly.

During the same year, he also got the bronze for winning third in the 50-meter freestyle event at the European Short Course Swimming Championships. He also got the silver for the 50-meter butterfly.

Starting from the next year up to 2015, he successfully got himself not just one, but three golds in 50 butterfly events of the European Short Course Swimming Championships.

Shortly after, during the event of the 2016 European Aquatics Championships held in London, he snatched another gold for the 50-meter butterfly. During that same event, he broke his National and championships records by finishing in 22.73, while becoming the fastest swimmer who wore a textile swimsuit.

Two years later, he participated in European Championships 2018 held in Glasgow. In the event, he won the gold for the 50-meter butterfly by finishing with a time recorded at 22.48. Within the same year, Govorov also broke his own world record for 50 meters butterfly long course with a time recorded at 22.27.
