Who Is Mack Horton

Mach Horton is a competitive swimmer representing Australia. He was born on 25 April 1996 and specializes in long-course events. Starting at a very young age, Horton was already seen to be a bright swimmer.

Mackenzie Horton, or Mack, for short, started the whole swimming run when he was just 10. At first, he feared the depth of the water. Their love for swimming grew after he overcome it. Just three years late, he successfully broke his first record for Australia.

2012 Junior Pan Pacific Championships

In his early days, he joined the Junior Pan Pacific Championships where he competed with the fellow teenagers. And during this event, he successfully broke the meet record for the 1,500-meter freestyle event. After finishing second in the 400-meter freestyle, he got his medal. During the championships, he was able to finish 4th in the 800-meter freestyle.

The last junior Championship he competed in was the 2013 World Junior Championships where he ended up with five golds after reaching first for 200, 400, 800, and 1,500-meter freestyle, and also the 4 x 100-meter freestyle relay. He also got the silver for the 200-meter freestyle. It was brilliant.

2015 World Championships

About three years later, he participated in the 2015 World Championships where he ranked 5th in the final. His split during the 400-meter freestyle was the quickest of any swimmers in the event.

Horton ended up winning the third position, third to Sun yang and Gregorio Paltrinieri.

2016 Rio Olympics

A year later, Horton was competing in the Rio Olympics 2016 where he got the gold medal for winning the 400-meter freestyle during the opening night versus Sun Yang from China. His time was 3:41.55.

However, Horton made a drama by calling out their fellow summer, Sun Yang, for the drug case that happened in 2014. He said that “win for the good guys”. Although China demanded an apology from Horton, he refused.

2017 FINA World Championships

Horton also participated in the 2017 FINA World Championships when he already got the first medal, silver, for finishing at 3:43.85. The rivalry between Sun Yang and Horton was even captured by cameras.

During the 1,500-meter freestyle event, Horton won the bronze medal by finishing at 14:47.70.

2018 Commonwealth Games

A year later, he joined the Commonwealth Games where he got three medals, bronze for the 1,500-meter freestyle, silver for the 200-meter freestyle, and gold for the 400-meter freestyle.

He also participated in the 4 x 200-meter freestyle relay for Australia and won gold with a time recorded in 1:46.93.

2018 Pan Pacific Championships

In the 2018 Pan Pacific Championships, Horton successfully got the silver after nearly beating out Jack McLoughlin, a fellow Australian teammate.

2019 FINA World Championships

A year later, Horton participated in the 2019 FINA World Championships. And during the event, he defends his silver after winning the second for the 400-meter freestyle behind Sun Yang. He made a protest afterwards by not standing at the same podium as Sun Yang, which resulted in a warning letter and the potential for medal revocation.

Horton got the gold medal right on day six during the 4 x 200-meter freestyle relay with their fellow teammates by reaching 1:44.85, the new field best.

2020 Olympic Games

During his second Olympics, Horton qualified for the relay and helped his team to gain the bronze in the 4 x 200-meter freestyle relay event with a time of 1:47.51.
