Robin Arzon: VP of Fitness at Peloton

Robin, the Vice President of Fitness Programming at Peloton, believes sweat can change people’s lives. Her foray into professional cycling began when she figuratively and physically “ran herself out of a lucrative law job.” Inspiring and genuine stories are one of Robin’s primary tools to push members beyond their self-imposed barriers and justifications. Robin is an RRCA-certified running coach, ultramarathoner, and the author of the best-selling book Shut Up and Run from the New York Times. Her life’s work is redefining and rethinking the boundaries of what is possible via movement.

Robin, one of the hot Peloton instructors, has completed 27 marathons and various ultra-marathons to this point, including running five marathons in five days to raise money for multiple sclerosis research. Redefining, reforming, and rethinking the concept of potential via movement has been her life’s work.

In her MasterClass on Mental Strength, Robin teaches participants how to transform their inner critic into their inner champion. She does this by supplying them with the essential skills that will allow them to go to the next level in one or more aspects of their lives.

After a successful career in law, what brought her interest in fitness?

She was held at gunpoint in a wine bar during her last year at New York University. As a means of recovering from the trauma of that event, she turned to exercise and, more particularly, running. She began to run farther and further each week and finally worked her way up to running marathons and ultramarathons.

She states: “There were certain elements of being a lawyer that I like, but on a daily basis, I found myself counting down the minutes until I could leave the office and go for a run or to a workout session instead. In 2012, I decided to pursue athletics as my full-time occupation and resigned from my work as a corporate attorney. Through motion, I realized that my purpose in life is to redefine, alter, and rethink the concept of potential.”

In addition to her personal training, Arzon leads courses five days a week. She lifts weights three times a week and does speed work on Thursdays. On Saturdays, she goes for long runs of 10-15 miles all year round and larger distances when preparing for a marathon.
