Viaplay, a Scandinavian streaming platform that provides series and movies, is preparing to raise its subscription fees. The increase will be really big and concerns the cost of a monthly subscription.

On the Viaplay home page, in the “get Viaplay package” tab, there are current subscription plans that allow you to use the service – the monthly cost is USD 8. As part of the plan that the company prepared, you can watch movies, series, cartoons for children, as well as sports broadcasts like Premier League, KSW, Bundesliga. From 2023, Formula 1 racing will be available on Viaplay for three years.

Now, in addition to this package, you can buy an annual subscription; the monthly cost of this subscription is USD 7. This option is available until December 31, 2022, and additionally, there is a note at the bottom, which shows that from March 2023, the monthly cost of the subscription will increase to as much as USD 12 per month (an increase of approx. 61%).

Anyone who subscribes to this package (basic, monthly – editorial note) pays USD 8/month until February 28, 2023. From March 1, 2023, your subscription will automatically be charged USD 12/month. You can cancel your subscription at any time.

USD 12 per month is a large amount compared to other current offers of streaming services offering movies and series. Currently, you have to pay USD 7 for the basic monthly Netflix package, Disney+ costs USD 6.4, and HBO Max costs USD 6.6.

Viaplay may tempt sports fans, especially those interested in Formula 1 racing, but such a large increase will certainly affect the popularity of the service. At the end of June 2022, Viaplay was used by 5.549 million users worldwide. The platform appeared in Poland almost exactly a year ago – on August 3, 2021.
