Best Triathlon Heart Rate Monitor 2019
1. Garmin Forerunner 35 Triathlon activity monitor
- Built in GPS built in to acquire satellites quickly to track how far, how fast and where you run, even under tree cover. No phone required!;Water rating : 5 ATM
- 24/7 heart rate monitoring warm gives you heart rate all day and night no additional Strap required. sunlight visible, transflective memory in pixel (MIP)
Our Independent Rating
The Garmin Forerunner 35 is a product of choice for people who are always on the go and for triathletes who keeps track of how far, how fast and where they run without the need to use phones.
It is also waterproof which makes it an ideal product for all-day wear, everywhere. I especially love the analog watch face option.
It makes it look less like a running watch and can go about almost any wear, any time. You can also see the display easily and the data fields offer much more info.
The display is also crisp and clear, it seems as if it adjusts to lighting perfectly so you can see the screen in whatever condition, closely similar to the Kindle paperwhite screen.
And if you're walking in the middle of the night, the backlight is bright enough for checking the time but it's not blinding, thanks to its bluish tint that's easy on the eyes.
I also appreciate how the charging cable is easier to attach with this model as it just clips on the side and is also easier to remove.
The cadence tracking is superb and I won't need a foot pod that sometimes get in the way of tags during races.
It is also waterproof so I won't have to remove the device when I go swimming or other water activities. Sweating while doing brick workouts is never an issue.
What I don't like is that the auto-pause doesn't always work. The buttons on the side may give the watch a sleeker look but sometimes, they are a little harder to push.
Also, the Bluetooth range and connectivity is sometimes unstable and the connectivity to the Garmin app is not always good, however, it does syncs like 2-3 times a day.
This is by far the Best heart rate monitor for Triathlon. I have used it extensively and as you can already see why I have put this as no 1 product.
2. Garmin Forerunner 945 Triathlon Smartwatch
- Premium GPS running/triathlon smartwatch with music
- Sync music from select premium streaming services when paired with a compatible smartphone (may require premium subscription), or store up to 1,000 songs on your watch, and connect with headphones (sold separately) enabled with BLUETOOTH technology
Our Independent Rating
Packed with more features than its predecessor, the Garmin Forerunner 945 crammed so many sensors inside its sleek design without compromising overall performance.
You get an optical heart rate monitor, gyrometer, barometric altimeter, compass, accelerometer and even a thermometer in one 13.7mm thin case.
It's made lighter by its fiber-reinforced polymer casing even though the watch looks bigger on my small wrist. But I can barely feel its weight so it's perfect for all-day everyday wear.
It's sleek and minimalistic design makes it an ideal watch for all occasions. You can continuously track your heart rate and activities round the clock.
What I like about it is that helps predict your performance, warns you if you are overdoing your workout or training and tells you how many hours or days you need to recover after working out.
It's like you have your own built-in coach in a small and powerful all-in-one sports watch.
It has everything you need for a sports watch, with all the multisports features, music and the five buttons that make toggling better even when its raining or your fingers are sweaty after your workout.
Touch screens are not so friendly with wet or sweaty fingers and this gives the Garmin 945 and edge over its competitors.
And perhaps, the best thing about this watch is the safety and tracking features including incident detection.
It sends your real-time location to your emergency contacts through your paired compatible phone.
This can be a lifesaver especially in situations where you go off-road. Plus the battery life is exactly as advertised but it still depends on your usage.
One downside is the Garmin pay. While contactless payment is an advantage, it still depends on your location and whether or not your bank supports this payment option.
You also have limited ability to respond to your notifications which can be a minor issue only.
3. Garmin HRM For Triathletes
- COMPACT AND COMFORTABLE - HRM-Tri is the smallest and lightest heart rate monitor from Garmin. Designed with rounded edges and no exposed seams, the strap remains comfortable during extended hours of training.
- SWIM HEART RATE1 - Stores up to 20 hours of heart rate data during swims, then forwards it to a compatible device at the end of the session. It also sends real-time heart rate to the watch when the monitor is out of the water
Our Independent Rating
Garmin is by far, one of the leading brands to measure heart rate accurately. This Garmin Chest Strap HRM is no exemption. The HRM-Tri is perfect for triathlon but also swimming, cycling and running. You can surely improve your triathlon experience especially if you pair it with a Garmin compatible multi sports watch.
Its compact design makes it the smallest, lightest yet most accurate heart rate monitor from Garmin.
The user-replaceable battery is one of the things I love about this product. The 10 months battery life is already an added bonus plus the fact that it's replaceable makes it an even better deal.
Take note though that 10 months of battery life is only possible if the device is used for one hour on average daily.
So if you use it for more than an hour daily, expect a decrease in battery life. But not to worry since the battery is replaceable.
Data-hungry triathletes will even love its capacity to store up to 20 hours of heart rate data. You can review your workout as it allows you to transfer your workout data to either your laptop or your smartphone.
Better yet, you can send your heart rate data to your Garmin sports watch once you're out of the water. This will sync and combine data perfectly.
However, since the HRM-TRI is crafted for open-water use, running and cycling, it is not advised to use it in a pool. Due to pool chemicals, the strap may only last about 30-50 times.
Overall, it is an effective product to monitor your heart rate. However, I'm also not fond of how pricey this product is and yet the strap is not made from high-quality materials.
4. Polar H10
- BUILT-IN MEMORY: Heart rate monitor stores 1 heart rate training session. Perfect for sports and activities where a wrist unit would be difficult to use.
- GoPro COMPATIBLE: Pair your H10 Polar heart rate sensor directly to the GoPro Hero 5 compatibility camera and overlay your heart rate data onto the recorded video.
Our Independent Rating
Polar surely want to leave a mark as one of the leading brands in consumer heart rate monitors. As an upgrade of the Polar H7, the new Polar H10 is a high-end chest strap monitor that has all the perks you love.
It's a great workout companion that captures your workout even without a smartphone. It's also sleeker than its predecessor and fits perfectly against your chest. It has very minimal bulge and if you're a gal like me, it fits better under the sports bra bands.
What I love about this product is that it's user-friendly. It's so easy to remove the battery which was previously an issue with older versions. On top of that, the built-in memory gets me excited about my workout. Both features are solid investments.
However, since it doesn't have a screen, you won't get any real-time data unless you use compatible equipment, like a smartwatch. Its ability to store workout or send real-time info to Polar fitness watches makes it worth buying.
However, one downside I noticed when using this device is that it doesn't have an accelerometer. There's no data for my stride rate, ground contact time and other metrics which is important for triathletes. You can't use it to count your reps when doing strength training workouts.
On top of that It's not using ANT+ connectivity common in some fitness watches.
5. Polar Ignite HRM for triathlon training
- POLAR PRECISION PRIME HEART RATE - Polar redefines the gold standard in optical heart rate accuracy by combining the latest in bio-impedance electrodes and optical sensors. This next generation HR watch will take your training to the next level!
- DAILY TRAINING GUIDE - In addition to smart features like the ability to receive texts, phone calls, or email, Polar Ignite comes equipped with the Polar Fit Spark Daily Training Guide to coach you and provide the best workouts for your fitness goals.
Our Independent Rating
Take your triathlon training to the next level with this Polar Ignite Advanced Waterproof Fitness Watch. It is very lightweight and stylish and a perfect activity and fitness tracker in one.
Push your limits the right way with its Polar Fit Spark Daily Training guide that serves as your own personal coach.
Enjoy ready-made workouts to match your recovery and readiness, plus helps measure your recharge during the night.
What I love about this device is that it has replaceable straps and is compatible with any standard 20 mm watch straps.
You can wear it anywhere even after any triathlon races. Its sleek and stylish design make it blend with whatever you wear.
And if you want to change colors, there are many standard 20mm straps out there.
There is also the Serene breathing exercise to help you relax your body and calm your mind. It's so easy for me to take my sleep for granted, thinking that I can simply make up for it. But the sleep tracking feature of this watch helps correct my unhealthy sleeping habits.
It's button is lit and the way the heart rate information is highly visible is enough to convince me to keep this product. And when I went on a backpacking trip, the GPS really worked great.
One downside to this product is that you have to change the display to ALWAYS On during a run to the screen will stay backlit.
Moreover, I had to synch my watch with the Polar Flow app so the "auto stop" is enabled and the lap length is set in miles.
Overall, it's a good product worthy of its price.
