Who Is Felipe Alves Franca Da Silva

As a talented professional swimmer from Brazil, the name Felipe Alves Franca da Silva is often mentioned. He, along with his team, participated in multiple Olympic Games while representing his country.

Early Life

Born on May 14th, 1987, da Silva was a brilliant kid who really loved swimming. His love for the sport was the reason that led him to become the Junior Category II champion in Brazil. After spending a long time training at the Gustavo Borges academy, he moved to Sao Paulo where he met his team, Espotre Cluve Pinheiros.

International Career

2008

His long years of career began in 2008 when he joined FINA World Swimming Championships held in Manchester. During the event, he successfully finished 6th in the 4×100 m medley and got the 12th position for the 100 m breaststroke.

Not long after that, da Silva finally got into the Summer Olympics where he competed for the trophy of 100 m breaststroke category. However, he only finished 22nd in the event.

2009

2009 was the year when everything seems a lot better for da Silva. In Brazillian Championships, he successfully got the record of the fastest swimmer who can beat the 27 seconds record for the 50-meter breaststroke category. This got him gold with the time recorded at 26.89.

Within the same year, da Silva also got a chance to win a silver in the 50-meter breaststroke event during the 2009 Summer Universiade. Da Silva snatched another silver when he won the second place in the same category at World Aquatics Championships. His time was 26.76.

2010

In 2010, he participated in the Pan Pacific Swimming Championships held in California. And in that very event, he successfully won the gold medal for the 50 m breaststroke category.

During the FINA World Swimming Championships held in Dubai, da Silvas also won another gold in the same category. He even beat the world record holder at that time, Cameron van der Burgh, while also putting in a new record. In that same event, he also got the bronze for 100 m breaststroke with the time recorded at 57.39, and an additional bronze for the 4×100 meter medley.

2011

In 2011, da Silva came to Shanghai to attend World Aquatics Championships 2011. During the event, he won the gold in the 50 me breaststroke, setting a new record that replaced Cameron van der Burghs in 27.01.

Within the same year, he also won another goldie for the 100 m breaststroke category and 4×100 meter medley.

2012

A year later, da Silva participated in the Maria Lenk Trophy held in Rio de Janeiro, and in that event, he finished as the fifth fastest swimmer in the world with a time of 26.87 for the 50-meter breaststroke category.

Seeing how brilliant his performance was, The Brazillian Team trusted da Silva to get a meal for the 100-meter breaststroke in the Summer Olympics. Unfortunately, he couldn’t do so. He finished 12th, while his rival, Cameron Van der Burgh, got the gold and set the new world record for the category.

2014

In 2014, da Silva participated in various Championships, including Pan Pacific Swimming Championships held in Queensland, Australia. During the event, he successfully snatched a silver for the 100-meter breaststroke.

When participating in the Jose Finkel Trophy, da Silva succeeded in setting a new American record for the 100-meter breaststroke with a time recorded at 56.25

However, Franca da Silva showed to the world that he was one of the promising professional swimmers when he won not one, but five gold medals in multiple categories during FINA World Swimming Championships in Qatar. He, along with his team, finally put the name Brazil to be the winner of the competition for the very first time.

The first gold was obtained by the Dream Team consisting of multiple talented Brazilian swimmers, including Franca Da Silva, for the 4 x 50-meter medley relay. Their time was 1:30.51. The next gold was snatched for the 100-meter breaststroke when da Silva won the first position with the time recorded at 56.29, which was the new Championships record. He also got another gold in the 4 x 50-meter medley relay with his teammates.

Da Silva got another gold three days later after he won the first position in the 50-meter breaststroke event. He also joined in the 4 x 100-meter medley relay and won the gold with a time recorded at 3:21.14.

2016

About two years later, Franca da Silva participated in Summer Olympics. During the event, he broke and set a new South American record for the 100-meter breaststroke category with a time recorded at 59.01.
