New series Matka King based on true life story by Siddharth Roy Kapur

Siddharth Roy Kapur’s production company, Roy Kapur Films, has joined forces with the acclaimed filmmaker Nagraj Manjule for an exciting new series, tentatively titled ‘Matka King.’ In a bold move, the production house is gearing up to craft a riveting narrative centered around “matka,” a popular form of betting in India. This upcoming venture is set against the backdrop of the 1960s and 1990s, drawing inspiration from true events and the life of Ratan Khatri, renowned as the ‘Matka King’ and a pioneer of gambling in India.

The forthcoming series takes viewers on a journey into the life of a man determined to conquer the world of money. It sheds light on how currency flows through the informal economy, shaping the power dynamics of a nation. The narrative delves into the vibrant culture of Mumbai’s bustling working class during the ’60s and ’70s, offering a glimpse into the nation’s evolution through their lives and the betting syndicate overseen by Khatri.
