Andrei Minakov is a professional swimmer from Russia. He’s known for winning the silver during the 2019 World Championships in the 100-meter fly. He was only 18 back then. Not long after his winning, he signed a contract to swim for Standford in 2020.
International Career
2018 Youth Olympic Games
The earliest known record for Minakov was back in 2018 when he participated in the 2018 Youth Olympics. During the event held in Buenos Aires, Minakov successfully won a gold in the 100-meter fly (51.12) while also set a new Russian record previously held by Egor Kuimov (51.16).
2019 World Championships
A year later, Minakov qualified for the 2019 World Championships thanks to his utmost effort. This time, he got the silver medal in the 100-meter fly with the time of 50.83, another national record. He ultimately finished second behind Caeleb Dressel of America.
Another record was broken when Minakov joined the team in the 400-meter medley relay and finished in (3:28.81). The team ended up with a bronze medal behind Great Britain and the USA.
2019 World Junior Championships
Minakov opened his Championships moment by competing in the 400-meter free, which he later obtained a silver medal.
Day 2 was another silver for the Russian team, and Day 3 was finally Minakov’s time to get the individual medals. The first one was the 100-meter fly where he got the gold, and then the latter one was a silver medal in the 400-meter free relay.
On the final day, Minakov closed the competition by winning another gold in the 100-meter free with a time record of 48.73. Moments later, another gold was obtained from the 4 x 100 medley relay.
2019 Swammy Awards
Surely, the awards were sure to be expected after his accomplishments in the last two major events. For his effort, Minakov got the Swammy Awards for Breakout Male Swimmer of The Year and also the World Junior Male Swimmer of the Year.
2021 European Championships
In the European Championships, Minakov successfully got bronze, silver, and gold medals. He obtained the bronze in the 100-meter free (47.74), silver in 400-meter medley relay, and the gold was snatched from 400-meter free relay.
