Ilya Borodin didn’t have the chance to display his talents at the two previous global championships. Borodin was forced out of the Olympic Games in Tokyo last year by COVID-19. In addition, Borodin was left out of this summer’s World Championships because of FINA’s decision to Russian athletes from participating in the competition due to Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.

Borodin ran a 4:08.05 time to win the 400-meter individual Medley. He won the 400-meter individual Medley by eight seconds more than Maxim Stupin (44:16.23). Borodin also won the 200-individual Medley earlier in the meet.

In the men’s 100 breaststroke, Ilya Shimanovich of Belarus broke the 59-second barrier to win the title in 58.97. This swim was sufficient to beat Anton Chupkov (59.24) and Kirill Prugoda (59.37), who finished one-two in a 200 breaststroke. Chupkov and Prigoda were able to close on Shymanovich in the final lap. However, the Belarussian’s opening split at 27.26 gave him plenty of breathing room.

Arina Sukova won the 50 Butterfly in 25.89, while Anna Chernysheva took first place in the 400 Medley at 4:46.40.

Daniil Dmitrievich Markov denied Kliment Kolesnikov his fourth medal of the meet when he ran 22.01 in 50 freestyle. This was slightly faster than the 22.06 of Kolesnikov.
