Peloton have come up with a brand-new patent application that showcases something really cool. Imagine having controls and buttons right on the handlebars of the Bike & Row. And you know who spilled the beans first? It was none other than Bob Treemore, who shared this scoop on Twitter.
The patent application, with the catchy number WO2023059522, made its debut on April 13, 2023. The title’s a bit of a mouthful: “Handle Controls Systems and Methods for Exercise Equipment.” Basically, it’s all about smart ways to handle controls for exercise gear. Here’s the scoop from the abstract:
Here’s the idea: let’s say you’re working out on this exercise machine, and it’s got sensors and stuff attached to the handlebars. These sensors talk to a control system that’s also on the handlebars. So, the machine gets data from these sensors and figures out how you can make your exercise even better. Then, it sends commands to the machine to make those changes happen. What’s really neat is that you can adjust stuff without even moving your hands from the handlebars. Talk about convenience, right? There’s more stuff in there too, like different ways to do this.
In simple words, if this gizmo becomes a reality, you won’t need to lean down to twist a knob to change the resistance on your Peloton Bike. It’s like magic – just tap a button on the handlebars and voila! This patent is full of similar ideas where they’re making things super easy for you while you’re sweating it out on the Peloton machine.
And there’s more! Besides these easy-peasy controls, they’ve got another trick up their sleeve. Imagine having a little display screen right on the handlebars. You could see all sorts of stuff there. It’s all about making your exercise time smoother and cooler.
Back before the Row made its grand entrance in the fall of 2022, we had dropped a hint. We said, “Hey, you might find controls and buttons on the handle of this thing.” The cool part? You could do stuff during your workout without letting go of the handle. Imagine cranking up the volume, doling out high-fives, or ruling the leaderboard, all while you’re rowing. But, hold up – turns out, the first version didn’t have those buttons after all.
But guess what? There’s some fresh news! This new patent thingy shows that Peloton is cooking up more than just rowing controls. They’re eyeing controls for the Bike too.
Hold on a sec, though. Just ’cause they’re patenting something doesn’t mean we’ll see it in real life. You know how it is, right? Sometimes ideas stay in the lab.
Big thanks to Bob Treemore for giving us the scoop. So, here’s the deal: Do you think buttons and controls on your Peloton gear would be cool? And if you’re up for it, what kind of cool things would you want these buttons to do?
